Shiraz Shiraz, a prominent Sri Lankan rapper, died after performing during a demonstration in Colombo’s Galle Face Ground.

The rapper fell at the demonstration location where people had gathered to demand President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s resignation over the country’s catastrophic economic crisis.

The late rapper took part in the ‘Go Home Gota’ rally held at Galle Face Ground. He captivated the enormous audience that had assembled at the location by performing Bob Marley’s classic song, “Get up, Stand up,” before collapsing.

Numerous Twitter users expressed their grief over the death of their favourite artist. As fans grieved his death, they referred to him as a “pioneer” in the country’s rap scene. Some praised him for fighting for his nation in his final moments, while others expressed their sympathies to his family.

Who Is Rapper Shiraz?

Shiraz Yoonus was one of the most prominent rappers in Sri Lanka. He has also been known by his moniker “Rude Bwoy.”

He is well-known not just in Sri Lanka, but also across the world. He was also a social media phenomenon who utilised his followers to influence him. During several of his appearances, he shared his videos with the audience, who were enthralled by them.

He passed on 12th April 2022 at the age of 29.

Throughout his musical career, he sang a variety of songs. He was one of Sri Lanka’s most well-known vocalists.

Cause Of His Death And Reason

On demonstration night, he collapsed two minutes after finishing Bob Marley’s “Get up, Stand up” as enjoyment for the demonstrators.

He was brought to the nearest hospital after collapsing, but he was confirmed dead on the way. Shiraz was reportedly declared dead while being transferred to a local hospital in an ambulance. Shiraz, nicknamed Rude Bwoy, was said to have died of a heart attack.

A video from the occasion has also gone viral, with admirers expressing their sorrow at the awful loss.

As Sri Lanka’s economic situation worsens, citizens have resorted to the streets to protest demanding the removal of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahindra Rajapaksa.

The demonstrators accuse the Rajapaksa administration of failure in terms of securing Sri Lanka’s economic development. Recently, Sri Lankans in Milan staged an anti-government rally, shouting chants like “Go Gota (Gotabaya) Go.”
