Video footage of a Benfica fan throwing his walking stick at Luis Diaz has gone viral
Handed a favourable fixture in their Champions League quarter-final affair, when Liverpool went to take on Benfica in the first leg of the double header, the visitors looked to end the tie on the day itself. And the Premier League club stamped its authority of the clash as it walked away with a 3-1 win from the showdown, one which sees them with one foot in the next round.

Luis Diaz played an integral role in Liverpool’s schooling of Benfica as he scored and assisted the one goal apiece. And as he wrapped up his side’s win on the night, Diaz raced towards the concourses to revel in the celebrations at the Estadio da Luz to leave the Benfica fans irked.
Fuming at Diaz celebrating in their face, the Benfica fans were seen raucously jeering and abusing the ex-Porto man. However, one home fan decided to take things a step further as he threw his walking stick at Diaz, video footage of which has since gone viral.
While the stick missed its intended target, Roberto Firmino was quick to notice what had transpired as he looked towards the concourses to identify who had thrown the stick. This wasn’t a standalone incident though with the Liverpool players persistently pelted with objects from the stands.
‘I had quite a few lighters thrown at me so maybe it’ll help them stop smoking! Take the positives,’ Andy Robertson said after the match.
