Paddlers from India won two medals at the WTT Contender Doha 2022, including Achanta Sharath Kamal’s bronze in singles. G Sathiyan and Manika Batra finished as runner-up in the mixed doubles of WTT Contender Doha 2022, losing to the top-seeded Chinese Taipei pair of Lin Yun-Ju and Cheng I-Ching. The Indians were defeated 4-11, 5-11, and 3-11.

From the start, the No. 7 Indian mixed duo found the Taipei combination difficult to beat. Their problems were exacerbated when Sathiyan and Manika were unable to interpret the Taipei duo’s left-right combination, which completed the work in a clinical manner.

Sharath Kamal, on the other hand, failed to capitalize on a strong position in the sixth game and lost 3-4 (5-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5, 10-12, 9-11) to Yuan Licen of China in the men’s singles semi-finals. This was Sharath’s first medal in two years. In 2020, the Indian veteran won gold at the Oman Open.
