Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2 2022 Charity Cup Prize Money
The Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, also known as the Champions Chess Tour 2022, is a nine-month series of nine online chess tournaments featuring some of the world’s best players competing for a prize pool of US$1.6 million. The tour will begin on February 19, 2022, and end on November 20, 2022.
The second leg of the $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour will be dedicated to raising funds for Ukrainian war victims. Starting on March 19, the Charity Cup will be the second leg of the world’s most renowned elite online chess tournament.
Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2 2022 Charity Cup Rules, Format, Schedule, Date, Time
At the round-robin phases of The Charity Cup, the round-robin will employ a football-style 3 point for a win, 1 point for a tie scoring system, and participants will earn cash bonuses for each rapid game played. The players will earn $750 for a victory and $250 for a draw.
The Charity Cup is divided into four days of preliminary rounds, during which the 16 competitors will play each other once in rapid chess with a time control of 15 minutes + 10-second increments before the top 8 advance to the knockout stages.
The knockout tournament consists of four games, one for each of the quarterfinals and semifinals, and two for the championship. If the score is still tied, two 5+3 blitz games will be played, followed by an Armageddon game in which White has 5 minutes to Black’s 4, but Black simply needs a draw.
The event started from March 19 and will run till March 26, with action starting at 13:00 ET (22:30 IST) every day. The tournament is taking place in online mode due to travel restrictions.

After the culmination of the Charity Cup preliminaries, Le Quang Liem remained the lone leader. The Vietnamese finished five points clear of second-placed Magnus Carlsen in the standings and qualified for the knockout rounds.

In the quarter-finals of Charity Cup 2022, Magnus Carlsen breezed past Hans Niemann after winning two games and drawing the third one. Preliminary stage leader Le Quang Liem shook off the challenge from David Navara and made it to the semi-finals.
