Prahar, an NGO, is urging the government to impose a ban on this app as well, claiming that it is similar to PUBGM and poses a threat to enormous amounts of consumer data in India. Prahar made several demands in the letter he wrote.

The fundamental worry is that BGMI has still been operated by Tencent, and hence should be prohibited. Several facts were inferred, such as Tencent owning a big interest in Krafton Inc. And thus being involved in BGMI. In the letter, Prahar stated that Chinese internet giant Tencent had a 15% ownership in Krafton. This is similar to Tencent’s 18% holding in another popular game, Free Fire, which was recently banned.

The Indian authorities banned another set of similar 54 Chinese apps two weeks ago. Including the popular video game Free Fire.

The letter sent to the Indian Government by Prahar NGO states the following:

“On paper, Tencent is the second-largest shareholder of Krafton with 15.5% stocks. However, it is said that Tencent holds additional interests in promoter’s various businesses, through private deals hidden from the public, giving them extraordinary control on Krafton….. Free Fire was another gaming app that was banned on 14 February. Since Tencent also holds 18.7%. share in Free Fire, it raises a basic question: if Free Fire was banned, why was BGMI PUBG exempted?”

Only time will tell if BGMI will again be banned in India. Due to the origin of the main owners and makers of the game. Till now, there is no update from the Indian government over a ban on the game.
