The Kolkata Thunderbolts outsmarted the Ahmedabad Defenders with a 15-13, 15-10, 15-12 victory in the final of the inaugural Rupay Prime Volleyball League 2022 championship at GMC Balayogi Stadium (Gachibowli) on Sunday.

Thunderbolts dominated from the start, riding on the incredible force and precision of K. Rahul, Vinit Kumar, and skipper Ashwal Rai in attack, and Mathew August and Mohd Riyazuddin in defence.
Defenders were repeatedly caught off guard, not just by the fancied opponent’s striking prowess, but also by the smart play of someone like Vinit, who would come up with a big serve, rush to the net, and catch the defence off guard either with his power or by smartly rolling the ball over the defenders into the open spots.
Ironically, neither Angamuthu nor Shon T. John of Defenders were given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities since the Thunderbolts defence, particularly libero B.S.Hari Prasad, was not up to the challenge.

On Sunday, the Kolkata Thunderbolts defeated the Ahmedabad Defenders 15-13, 15-10, 15-12 in the PVL 2022 final. The sole team from eastern India in the tournament, the Kolkata team managed by Ashwal Rai, has thus won the inaugural Prime Volleyball League title.
