The dashcam footage of the incident showed a semi-truck plowing into traffic with little to no braking.
Jashanpreet Singh arrested for vehicle manslaughter
As investigators quickly moved to identify the driver, authorities eventually identified Jashanpreet Singh as the main suspect and made an arrest. The 21-year-old Punjabi truck driver, who hails from Yuba City, California, was reportedly taken into custody on Tuesday. The accident took place at around 1:10 pm and involved a total of eight vehicles, including four semi-trucks. According to witnesses, Singh’s Freightliner tractor-trailer failed to slow down and collided with an SUV before hitting the other vehicles, starting a deadly chain reaction. The aftermath of the collision saw car parts scattered across the lanes and caused chaos on the westbound freeway.

Crash victims
According to eyewitness reports, three people died in the crash, including a 54-year-old man from Upland. The other two deceased victims reportedly died after suffering severe burns in the collision. Meanwhile, the collision also left four others injured, including Singh himself and a mechanic who was changing a tire on the side of the freeway at the time of the accident. Authorities are still investigating to identify the victims and the exact circumstances of the accident.
