Earlier, reports emerged that the man who intentionally plowed into a crowd outside an East Hollywood nightclub in L.A. on Saturday morning, July 19, has been identified as 29-year-old, Fernando Ramirez. The LAPD in their statement revealed that the furious bystanders dragged the man from his car and shot him with the shooter still absconding.

The crowd had gathered outside for valet services, food stands and entry to the nightclub and a taco stand and valet podium were among the structures hit, but the venue itself sustained no structural damage.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. local time, as patrons were leaving The Vermont Hollywood, located just west of the famed Sunset Junction in the Silver Lake district and the club was hosting a reggae-hip hop event from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The suspect, who police believe was intoxicated, was taken to the hospital for surgery.

Authorities have found no evidence to suggest the incident was connected to terrorism or motivated by criminal intentions beyond the driver’s impaired state but no motive is known as of yet.

Though, the authorities initially questioned if the collision was accidental, however, now they believe it was intentional. As per media reports, when the authorities arrived at the scene, Fernando Ramirez had already been “assaulted by bystanders,” and the LAPD had determined that “he had sustained a gunshot wound.”

Reportedly, at least 7 people were critically injured in the crash, and 23 others were hurt.

Though, as of now there isn’t much information available about him. However, as per various reports, Fernando Ramirez, who is identified as the driver of vehicle that rammed into the crowd at around 2 a.m. was kicked out of the east Hollywood nightclub earlier in the night for being too intoxicated. He is charged on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Reports claim that Ramirez is currently hospitalized and hasn’t been booked into the jail and as of now his condition remains unknown. Though, LAPD reportedly says, Fernando Ramirez had been “undergoing surgery,” at a local hospital after he suffered a gunshot wound from the incident.

What Did the LAPD Say?

The Commander of the LAPD, Lillian Carranza, earlier told the media that Fernando Ramirez “is not free to leave,” and that he “is in the custody of the Los Angeles Police Department.” Meanwhile, the local media quoted Captain Ben Fernandes saying that after analyzing the video, they reached the conclusion that “when he hit bystanders, it was an intentional act.”

The authorities also stated that bystanders pulled him out of Nissan Versa Sedan and then attacked him. The incident is reported to have taken place at 2:00 a.m. Though, the gunman who shot him is still wanted. More than 100 firefighters responded to the situation.

Police described the suspect who opened fire during the melee before fleeing on foot as a bald Hispanic 5 feet 9 inch man and he was wearing a blue jersey and potentially armed with a silver-coloured revolver.
