In her note, she blamed professors Shairy and Mahinder for mental harassment and humiliation.
Both have now been arrested.

Authorities also found a suicide note at the scene, which blamed two university faculty members for mental harassment.
Sharda University student Jyoti Sharma commits suicide
A medical student of Sharda University named Jyoti Sharma recently committed suicide on the evening of July 18, 2025. Sharma took her own life by hanging herself inside her hostel room at the university. According to reports, her fellow hostel residents and university staff rushed her to Sharda Hospital upon discovering her body. However, upon their arrival, doctors declared her dead and the news spread rapidly, triggering shock and anger among students and the public.
Reason behind the suicide
According to reports, Police recovered a handwritten suicide note from Jyoti’s room where she wrote the reason behind her suicide. Jyoti stated in her note:
Mahendra Sir and Sharg Ma’am are responsible for my death. They mentally harassed and humiliated me.”
Unsurprisingly, her final words have intensified all kinds of public scrutiny over the university’s academic environment and faculty conduct.
Investigations underway
Following the tragic death, Greater Noida’s Additional DCP, Sudhir Kumar, confirmed that the police have already arrested two individuals based on the note. He also assured that the investigation would proceed impartially. Meanwhile, Sharda University Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sitaram Khara stated that the university has formed a special committee in order to probe the matter. The committee includes senior faculty members as well as various university officials.

Jyoti Sharma was a 21-year-old medical student who originally hailed from Gurugram, Haryana. She was known to be diligent and soft-spoken, and she came from a close-knit family. Her sudden death has left her family and community back home as well as her peers devastated.
Jyoti Sharma, a 21-year-old second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida, tragically died by suicide in her hostel room, allegedly due to sustained mental harassment by two faculty members and a suicide note recovered by the Knowledge Park Police named college staff Shairy Vashist who is an assistant professor, Dental Sciences and Dr.Mahinder Singh Chauhan who is an assistant professor, Dental Sciences at the college with both suspended by the college.
Shairy is a graduate (2012-2017) from Sudha Rustagi College of Dental Sciences and Research, Faridabad, and completed Post Graduation (2019-2022) from the School of Dental Sciences, Sharda University. She had been awarded the Gold Medalist in the year 2022.

Mahinder meanwhile is a graduate as well as a Postgraduate in Prosthodontics from Rama Dental College, Kanpur in the year 2015 and had been working in the School of Dental Sciences since December 2020.

Jyoti was found hanging in the Mandela Girls Hostel on the 12th floor late on the night of July 18 and the suicide note she left exposed the mental harassment she endured including accusations of signing fraudulent documents and repeated humiliation by her professors.
In her note, she named the teachers of PCP and Dental Materials, stating she had endured prolonged stress and humiliation that drove her to take this step.
Police registered a case at the Knowledge Park Police Station after receiving the report and a forensic team examined the hostel room to collect potential evidence, and Jyoti’s body was sent for post-mortem.
Her family has leveled serious allegations of academic harassment and mental pressure. Jyoti’s brother Akshay claimed that a professor had accused his sister of forging signatures in her assignments. “My father came on Monday and spoke with the HOD. Yesterday morning, he spoke to Jyoti. Later, we heard from her batchmates that teachers taunted her about forgery and threatened to fail her in practicals. She was mentally pressured,” he said. He also alleged that the police resorted to lathi-charge when the family protested while mother, Sunita Sharma, made an emotional appeal: “I want justice for my daughter. Call CM Yogi and PM Modi. I will not move until I get justice. Police lathi-charged us, which is unacceptable. All BDS students are now scared and want to return home.”
