Lishalliny Kanaran accuses Indian priest of molestation
Miss Grand Malaysia 2021 winner Lishalliny Kanaran has come out and publicly accused a Malaysia-based Indian priest of molesting her during a visit to the Mariamman Temple in Sepang just last month. She posted a detailed Instagram post where she explained how she had gone alone to the temple on June 21. The priest, who had previously guided her through rituals, approached her with what he claimed was “holy water from India” and a protective thread. After completing her prayers, the priest asked her to meet him for a blessing.
According to Lishalliny, the priest splashed her with a strong-smelling liquid that stung her eyes. Following which, he groped her chest and urged her to undress while claiming that the act would bless her. When she refused, the priest simply criticized her for wearing tight clothes and then put his hands inside her blouse before molesting her. The priest even went on to claim that sleeping with him would be a blessing since he “served God.”
Lishalliny explained how she was paralyzed with fear and became unable to speak or move during the whole ordeal. She has since filed a police complaint on July 4, but by the time officers arrived at the temple, the priest had fled.
According to Sepang district police chief Norhizam Bahaman, the suspect is an Indian national who was performing prayers at the temple in the absence of the temple’s local priest.

Lishalliny Kanaran is a professional model and actress who hails from Selangor, Malaysia. She studied at the Architecture at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), during which she entered the world of pageantry. Kanaran gained her first major title with Miss Grand Selangor in 2020, following which she won the Miss Grand Malaysia 2021 crown in her third attempt at the age of 24.
Lishalliny was born and raised in Selangor, Malaysia, in a Tamil-speaking Malaysian Indian family and pursued her higher education in Architecture at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).
