“I have not told this to anyone,” Akash said in a conversation with Sony Sports. “My elder sister has been suffering from cancer for the last two months. She is now stable, and she is fine. I think she will be the happiest (seeing my performance). I want to dedicate this match to her. I wanted to see a smile on her face.” He didn’t reveal the type of cancer but it is in the third stage with his sister required to undergo treatment for another six months.

She recently sent a heartfelt message to her brother Akash Deep just before India’s tour of England, telling him not to worry about her health and instead focus on playing his best for the nation. Meanwhile, Akash dedicated his 10-wicket haul against England to Jyoti, a gesture that has surprised and deeply moved her. Jyoti stated in an exclusive interview:
“It is a matter of pride for India – he has taken 10 wickets. Before the England tour, we went to meet him at the airport. I told him, ‘I’m absolutely fine, don’t worry about me, just do well for the country.’ I am in the third stage (of cancer), and the doctor has said the treatment will go on for six more months, after which we’ll see.
“He didn’t need to say it publicly, but when he did, it showed how much he loves our family. That moment meant everything to me.”
In the interview, she also revealed how their family cheered and clapped so loudly at every wicket that neighbors even came to check in on them out of confusion. Despite the demanding schedule of the IPL 2025 playing for the Lucknow Super Giants, Akash frequently visited Jyoti in the hospital. She even recalled how Akash video called her right after India’s win at Edgbaston and how Akash had told her:
Don’t worry, the whole country is with us.”

Akhand Jyoti Singh is the elder sister of Indian cricketer Akash Deep, who relatively lives a very private life. She recently stepped into the spotlight after her brother publicly dedicated his performance to her as she undergoes a critical phase in her cancer treatment.
Jyoti comes from a large family of six siblings, and she is known for her emotional strength and resilience. She shares a close bond with Akash, who plays a major role in managing family responsibilities following their father and eldest brother’s death.
Jyoti was born to her late father Ramji Singh and his mother Laduma Devi in Dehri (Rotas), Bihar. Her father, Ramji Singh, worked as a teacher at Sasaram in Bihar before he passed away owing to a paralytic attack.
Akash lost his father to a stroke and older brother to an illness in the space of two months. Akash Deep is the youngest of the six siblings and has three elder sisters, an elder brother, and a late elder brother named Dhiraj, who died of a brief illness.
