Andre Silva passes away

Andre Silva is a professional footballer who recently died alongside his older brother, Diogo Jota, in a fatal car crash in Zamora, Spain. The tragic incident took place around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025 after their Lamborghini suffered a tire blowout while overtaking another vehicle. The vehicle seemingly veered off the road and caught fire, killing both brothers at the scene.

Tributes and condolences

Following Andre Silva’s tragic death, tributes have come pouring in from across the footballing world. The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) released a statement mourning his loss:

Much more than amazing players, Diogo and Andre were extraordinary people, beloved by teammates and respected by opponents. We have lost two champions.”

The FPF further urged UEFA to observe a minute’s silence during Portugal’s Women’s Euros game against Spain.

Liverpool FC have also come out to express their deep sorrow, stating:

It is with shock and deep sorrow that we send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva. Rest in peace.”

Andre Silva was a Portuguese professional footballer who recently passed away. Silva was born on April, 28,2000 in Gondomar, Portugal and he was just 25 years old at the time of his passing with his height at 1.73m. He started out his football journey in various youth systems, including a stint at Porto, when his brother Diogo played there on loan. Andre eventually progressed through the ranks and most recently played for Liga Portugal 2 team Penafiel which he had joined back in 2020.

There is currently not much information available about Andre Silva’s family background, aside from the fact that he was the younger brother of Diogo Jota. The siblings seemingly shared a deep bond and often trained together and supported each other’s careers. Diogo had just recently married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso, on June 22, and the couple had three children, Dinis, Duarte and the youngest child.

Only ten days before the accident, they had celebrated Diogo’s wedding in Sanabria. The two brothers are survived by their parents, Joaquim Silva and Isabel Silva.

Andre Silva was also a professional footballer, just like his brother and represented Penafiel in the Portuguese second-tier league. Silva mainly played as a forward and he was known for his agility, intelligence, and work ethic on the pitch. Despite not enjoying the same spotlight as his brother, Andre had immense potential and a deep passion for the sport.

Silva played as an attacking midfielder, and was seen as a footballer with a promising career in the domestic setup and he began his career with Gondomar SC’s youth setup before joining FC Porto at a similar level.
