Bob Vylan makes headlines at Glastonbury Festival

Punk-rap duo Bob Vylan recently made headlines following their performance at the 2025 Glastonbury performance on the West Holts stage. During a performance, the band’s frontman, Bobby Vylan, led the crowd in a chant of “death, death to the IDF,” which has now triggered a criminal investigation by Avon and Somerset Police. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also condemned the chant as “hate speech,” and the BBC also admitted that they should have cut away from the live stream.

The live-streamed performance also caused a lot of national debate and prompted Ofcom scrutiny and visa bans.  Despite all the backlash, Bobby posted a statement on Instagram, standing by his words and calling for a change in foreign policy.

Bob Vylan members

Bob Vylan is made up of two members: frontman and founder Bobby Vylan (Pascal Robinson-Foster) and drummer Bobbie Vylan. The duo, who call themselves “the Bobs,” formed the band back in 2017, in Suffolk. The duo has a combined net worth of 1-2 million pounds.

Punk group Bob Vylan’s members have said in interviews they had taken part in pro-Palestinian marches since before the band was formed. “If you have any moral compass, you understand the struggle,” Bobbie Vylan, the drummer, said last year in an interview.

Pascal Robinson-Foster, the group’s frontman, who performs as Bobby Vylan had also ranted about a Jewish record company boss for whom he had worked.

Prior to starting the band, Robinson-Foster previously performed as a poet under the name Nee Hi, and he was a part of grime collective Ear 2 da Street. He has also previously worked as a youth mentor who performed at the Black and Asian Police Association conference in 2005.

Robinson-Foster, 34 who has Jamaican heritage, started writing verse as a teenager around 2004, becoming an established performance poet under the name Nee Hi, as well as being part of a grime outfit called Ear 2 da Street.

He was invited to perform at the Black and Asian Police Association conference in Manchester in 2005, and served as a mentor for the young people in his home town Ipswich.

While he was born in Ipswich and has Jamaican heritage, the name of his parents aren’t known. He also has a daughter but it is not known if he has a wif or girlfriend.

UKLFI disclosed Robinson-Foster’s directorship of two companies—Ghost Theatre Ltd and Lavy Hill Ltd—and described the performance as a calculated attempt to provoke controversy and attract attention. The group maintained that both the artist and the broadcaster had a responsibility to prevent the spread of inflammatory rhetoric.

While the Foster surname is of English origin, derived from the occupation of “forester” or “keeper of the forest”, it  is not inherently associated with any specific religion but Pascal could be a Christian.

Bob Vylan music style

Bob Vylan usually features a blend of punk, grime, UK hip-hop, and reggae dancehall in their songs. The duo often crafts a genre-defying sound, drawing inspiration from the S*x Pistols, Stormzy, Dizzee Rascal, and Caribbean music. Their songs usually tackle racism, police brutality, homophobia, toxic masculinity, capitalism, and fatherhood, including high-octane performances like stage-diving, spoken word elements, and confrontational visuals.
