Authorities in Minnesota have launched a massive manhunt for 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter, the prime suspect in the targeted shootings of two state lawmakers. According to a report by the New York Post citing law enforcement sources, Boelter is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Democratic Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as the critical wounding of State Senator John Hoffman and his wife.

The chilling attacks, which occurred in separate homes just 15 kilometers apart, have stunned the state’s political circles and triggered an urgent multi-agency search for the suspect. Boelter, believed to have been impersonating a police officer during the assaults, was last seen on Saturday morning in Minneapolis. He was reportedly wearing a light-colored cowboy hat, a dark long-sleeve shirt, light pants, and carrying a dark bag.

Public records and digital footprints link Boelter to evangelical ministries. He also claimed to have served as a security expert with experience in high-conflict zones such as the Gaza Strip and parts of Africa. David Carlson, a longtime friend and roommate of Boelter’s in Minneapolis, told Reuters he had last seen him on Friday night. Not long after, Carlson received a disturbing text message that read, “He said that he might be dead soon.” Alarmed, Carlson contacted the police immediately.

Boelter had reportedly been living with Carlson due to his job at an eye donation center nearby. He is described by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension as standing 6-foot-1, weighing approximately 220 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The FBI has released a surveillance image showing a man believed to be Boelter outside one of the lawmakers’ homes, dressed in a police-style uniform and wearing what appears to be a realistic latex mask. Authorities confirmed that he was impersonating law enforcement officers during the attack.

The wife of Minnesota shooter Vance Luther Boelter has been detained and is being questioned after police found a weapon, ammunition, cash and passports in her car during a traffic stop on Saturday morning. Jenny Boetler was found in the car with relatives near Onamia, Minnesota.

It is unclear if the Boetlers lived with each other, as Vance is believed to live at a residence in Camden, Minnesota and that resident was raided by SWAT teams on Saturday afternoon. He was last registered as a Republican to vote back in 2022.

Vance and Jenny head Praetorian Guard Security Services, a Minnesota-based company which provides security services with Jenny serving as the CEO.

Boelter’s daughters are Faith, Hope, and Grace and two of his daughters are married.

Some of Boelter’s five children, four daughters and a son were homeschooled.

Boelter who stands at 6 feet 1 inch graduated from St. Cloud University with an undergraduate degree in international relations and then went on to Cardinal Stritch University to receive a master’s degree in management and a doctorate in leadership for the advancement of learning and service.

Age 57, Boelter who is an American Christian is a former public official who once held appointments under both Democratic governors of Minnesota and in 2016, he was appointed to the Governor’s Workforce Development Council by then-Governor Mark Dayton.

He was reappointed in 2019 to the Governor’s Workforce Development Board by current Governor Tim Walz and his term ended in January 2023.

Boelter worked as Director of Security Patrols for a private security firm in Minnesota, the Praetorian Guard Security Services, a Minnesota-based business that provides residential security patrols by armed and uniformed guards.

He before held positions as a general manager at a convenience store chain and as an employee at a food manufacturing company and his background spans the retail, food production, and private security industries. He is also the CEO of Red Lion Group based in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

His address is a rural property near Green Isle in Sibley County, Minnesota.

Inside Boelter’s vehicle, investigators found a cache of disturbing materials, including a manifesto, fliers reading “No Kings”—a reference to anti-Trump sentiment—and a detailed list of political targets. According to ABC News, that list included high-profile Democrats such as Governor Tim Walz, Representative Ilhan Omar, Senator Tina Smith, and Attorney General Keith Ellison. CNN further reported that abortion providers and reproductive rights advocates were also named.

Drew Evans, Superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, warned the public that Boelter is armed, dangerous, and capable of further violence. The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for any information leading to his arrest and conviction. As Minnesota reels from the tragic loss of Representative Hortman and her husband, and prays for the recovery of Senator Hoffman and his wife, the hunt for Boelter continues—marking one of the most alarming attacks on American lawmakers.
