Health Minister Vishwajit Rane of Panaji, Goa, has justified his decision to suspend a CMO from a state-run hospital by pointing to the doctor’s “arrogant behaviour” toward a patient.
Dr. Rudresh Kurtikar, the chief medical officer at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), has been suspended by Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane due to claims of patient abuse and “arrogant behavior.”
On Saturday, Vishwajit Rane declared that he would not say he was sorry for defending a patient who had been refused treatment. Rane claimed to have taken the step in response to a senior journalist’s complaint that the doctor in the Goa Medical College and Hospital’s casualty department had mistreated his mother-in-law.
Goa CM Pramod Sawant has now assured that Dr Rudresh Kurtikar, Casualty Medical Officer at Goa Medical College, will not be suspended after his video went viral.

The GMCH is a state-run hospital with about 1,000 beds that is situated in Bambolim, close by. Patients from Goa as well as neighbouring regions like Maharashtra and Karnataka can receive medical care there.

Vishwajit Pratapsingh Rane is a politician from India who serves as a cabinet member in the Goa government. He is the son of Pratapsingh Rane, the former Goan chief minister. From June 2007 to March 2012, Rane was the Minister of Health, Agriculture, and Craftsmen Training in the Goan government under Digambar Kamat. On March 16, 2017, he resigned from both the Indian National Congress and his position as the Valpoi Constituency’s MLA.
