As over 500,000 Liverpool fans reveled in the festivities of their side lifting the Premier League trophy, one elderly woman decided to join in as well.

When a car crashed into a densely populated crowd on Water Street at around 6:03 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025, what started as a joyous celebration of Liverpool FC’s 20th league triumph descended into chaos and bloodshed, injuring 47 people.
During the Liverpool FC’s 20th league celebrations, twenty individuals were treated at the site of the incident, according to the ambulance service whereas 27 were transported to the hospital.
Shortly after Liverpool’s open-top bus had gone through, the event happened in the heart of Liverpool, just off Castle Street, close to the last section of the parade route. According to witnesses, a grey people carrier possibly a Renault Espace emerged next to a parked ambulance and purposefully honked before crashing into the throng of people on the sidewalk.
“It came to our right, just beside an ambulance. The grey people carrier rammed into all the people at the side of us. It was extremely fast,” said Harry Rashid, 48, from Solihull, who had travelled with his wife and two daughters.
A 53-year-old white British male from the Liverpool region was arrested at the scene, according to police. After his car was severely damaged by irate bystanders, people pulled him out of the driver’s seat and took him into custody. As of 10:45 p.m. local time, he is still being held in jail.
Just after 6pm BST on Water Street, about a mile from the end of the parade and after the team had passed, a vehicle collided with members of the crowd and video of the incident circulating online appears to show the vehicle speed up as it veers into pedestrians on both sides of the street, with people knocked to the floor off the windshield.
The incident lasted 20-30 seconds, and the first victim was thrown “about 20ft” in the air.
Merseyside police said a 53-year-old white British male from the Liverpool area was arrested at the scene and the force’s assistant chief constable Jenny Sims said the “horrific incident” was not being treated as terrorism. However, the name, religion and other details about the driver aren’t known yet.
As soon as the crash happened, emergency services rushed in and Merseyside Police stated how they were treating the crash as an isolated incident. The crash led to 27 people being hospitalized, with two of them, including a child, suffering serious injuries. The firefighters had to reportedly lift four people, including one child, from beneath the vehicle.
🚨Liverpool Suspect Update
Some clearer footage of the suspect has been shared with me.
Some points to make on this new footage.

In one X clip, police officers are seen circling a car as an irate crowd of what are believed to be Liverpool supporters is restrained. A cop restrains a man who seems to be attempting to punch the car in the direction.
Police was spotted crowding around the car and separating the crowd in a video provided by an eyewitness.
Restaurants in the area were transformed into temporary treatment facilities and injured spectators were receiving water and bandages inside the stadium.
Response from authorities
Alison McGovern, the Birkenhead MP, has urged the public to refrain from making assumptions about the “really awful” incident that occurred during Liverpool FC’s Premier League winning parade.
