West Ham players wore pink armbands in the Premier League clash against Watford in memory of Isla Caton, a 7-year-old girl who bravely fought against a rare child cancer neuroblastoma for 5 years. She passed away on 25th January and the whole club, staff, players, and fans were saddened to hear the news.

Isla Caton was born in Hornchurch, Essex, to a West Ham supporting family who raised her as a Hammers’ fan. She was diagnosed with a rare child cancer neuroblastoma which became the reason for her sad demise in the month of January. Her story inspires many others who are fighting this rare disease.

West Ham: Isla Caton ‘The Youngest Hammer’

Nobody will ever forget the sweet and charming face of the young West Ham fan Isla Caton who sadly passed away last month after bravely fighting with a rare child cancer for the last 5 years. Her sheer determination to live and enjoy life as it is looked like a utopian dream. Meanwhile, her treatment costs were very high which united the West Ham fans who raised thousands of pounds to fund the treatment of their little fan.

Subsequently, she was provided with the best care possible in the UK and Spain. She fought with the disease for 5 years going through chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and major surgeries to remove a tumour from her stomach, bone marrow aspiration, MIBG therapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, and a stem cell transplant, all through which the young toddler stood firmly.

She was laid to rest in a moving memorial service held at South Essex Crematorium on Friday morning, 28 January 2022.

She was visited by Mark Noble and Robert Snodgrass in the medical facility in Spain. Mark Noble said-

“Isla’s incredible bravery and positivity shone through every time I met her, she had a fantastic smile and a love of life that was inspirational. Her battle caught the imagination of us all – the players, the fans, the staff and the board, as well as fans of other clubs.
