In the midst of the ongoing India vs Pakistan conflict, law student Sharmishta Panoli’s video commenting on Islam has gone viral on Twitter/X
Over the course of the last day, Sharmishta Panoli of Anandpur, Kolkata has been trending on Twitter/X and Instagram. While she initially went viral owing to her comments on the Khans of Bollywood who she went on a tirade against for not speaking in support on India amidst their feud with Pakistan, a string of cyber complaints have now been filed against her after a video of her vitriol directed at Prophet Muhammad surfaced.
Replying to a question on Instagram, Sharmishta who is a fourth year law student at Symbiosis Law School in Pune who works at Adab Singh and Kapoor Associates went onto talk about how she felt Prophet Muhammad was delusional who believed in getting 72 virgins in heaven, going onto add how he had really been to a wh*rehouse according to her.
Following the #ArrestSharmishta trend on X, Sharmishta Panoli removed the contentious video. She wrote, “I do hereby tender my UNCONDITIONAL APOLOGY whatever was put are my personal feelings and I never intentionally wanted to hurt anybody so if anybody is hurt I’m sorry for the same. I expect co-operation and understanding. Henceforth, i will be cautious in my public post. Again please accept my apologies.”

Muslims in India have strongly condemned and expressed shock at a Hindu girl named Sharmishtha’s extremely disrespectful and abusive remarks about Prophet Muhammad.
AIMIM leader Waris Pathan brought attention to the issue by posting a video of the girl’s remark on social media, requesting that the government take legal action and that she be arrested right away.
Sharmishtha is seen using disparaging remarks to cast doubt on Prophet Muhammad’s character in the now-viral video that is making the rounds on social media. The video infuriated not only regular Muslims but also community leaders and rights organizations, who claim that this kind of behavior is becoming more common in India as a result of the country’s growing intolerance and the freedom granted to right-wing Hindu speakers.

Following death threats and intense internet criticism, the teenager, who at first defended her remarks, later apologized in public. She asserted that her remarks were her own and that she never meant to offend anyone’s religious sensibilities.
However, a lot of Muslims believe that these justifications are insufficient, particularly when religious sensibilities are specifically targeted.
Waris Pathan, a senior AIMIM politician and former Maharashtra MLA, vehemently denounced the girl’s comments and urged the police to file a complaint against her. He accused the girl of inciting communal hate under the pretext of free speech, tagged the Ministry of Home Affairs, and called for severe judicial punishment.
On social media, Muslims overwhelmingly supported Pathan’s statement.
One user wrote, “When we speak, we are labelled as radicals. But when someone insults our Prophet, it is called freedom of speech.”
