AN Pramod speaks at ‘Operation Sindoor’ briefing
Indian military leaders recently held a briefing on Sunday, discussing the high-stakes Operation Sindoor, where Vice Admiral AN Pramod made an address. Pramod highlighted the Indian Navy’s forward deployment across the northern Arabian Sea. He also confirmed that the Indian Navy maintained complete maritime awareness with the ability to strike critical sea and land targets, including Karachi, if needed.
Pramod also stated that this aggressive posture of the Indian Navy forced the Pakistani Navy and air units into a defensive position. He stated:
The Indian Navy is fully prepared to strike at a time and place of our choosing.”

Vice Admiral AN Pramod is a top-ranking Indian navy official who took charge as the Director General Naval Operations (DGNO) last year, on January 15, 2024. He is a specialist in Air Operations and Electronic Warfare, and he has served in some of the Navy’s most critical operational and leadership roles. Pramod is an alumnus of the 38th Integrated Cadet Course at the Naval Academy in Goa. Throughout his distinguished career, Pramod has commanded various key naval ships like the INS Abhay, Shardul, and Satpura.

Vice Admiral Pramod is likely in his mid-50s and stands at around 5 feet 10 inches (178 cm).
Education
Prior to starting out his military career, Pramod underwent extensive military education, including the Staff Course at DSSC Wellington. He then trained at the Naval Higher Command Course at NWC, Goa. Notably, Pramod also served as Directing Staff at DSSC Wellington, shaping future military leaders.
An alumnus of the 38th Integrated Cadet Course, Naval Academy, Goa, he was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 July 1990 and the Flag Officer is a CAT ‘A’ Sea King Air Operations Officer and a Communication & Electronics Warfare Specialist.
He stood second in the Long Communication Course and did his Staff Course at Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, Tamil Nadu and the Naval Higher Command Course at the Naval War College in Goa.
Military career
Vice Admiral AN Pramod first got commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1990. Throughout his career, he has served in notable posts like Fleet Operations Officer for the Western Fleet, Executive Officer of INS Rajput, and commanding officer of the Naval Air Station Utkrosh in Port Blair. Pramod has also worked as the Principal Director of Aircraft Acquisition and held several senior roles at Naval Headquarters.
Pramod also served on the Indian Strategic & Operational Council (INSOC) from 2016 to 2019. Prior to that, he served on the Tactical Audit Group (TAG) from 2006 to 2009. Pramod most recently served as the Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area and Deputy Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy.
