The Ministry of External Affairs’ secretary, Vikram Misri, reportedly shut his X (previously Twitter) account after receiving a flurry of hateful remarks and messages from internet trolls.
Following Pakistan’s Saturday night breach of the ceasefire agreement, which sparked political outrage over the government’s handling of the issue, criticism started against Vikram Misri with him having to set his Twitter/X account to private after the deranged tirade targeted at him by India’s right wing.

Media outlets reported on Sunday that some social media users used derogatory language and personal assaults against Vikram Misri and even his daughters with his daughter Didon Misri in particular being targeted.
59-year-old Vikram Misri was born into a Kashmiri Hindu family in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, on November 7, 1964 but the names of his parents aren’t known.
Misri went to Carmel Convent School in Udhampur, Jammu division, then Burn Hall School and DAV School in Srinagar. After that, he attended Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh’s Scindia School. He later graduated from the University of Delhi’s Hindu College with a bachelor’s degree in history. In Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, he also earned an MBA at the Xavier Labour Relations Institute, or XLRI. Vikram is a 1989 batch diplomat of the Indian Foreign Service.
He has two kids and is married to Dolly Misri. He speaks Kashmiri, Hindi, and English with ease. He also knows a little bit of French. His daughter Didon Misri was a law student at the Jindal Global Law School from where she did her BA LLB Hons from 2014-2019 and then did her Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford from 2019-2020. She is currently an Associate (International Arbitration) at Herbert Smith Freehills.
Didon was criticised for her past work with international human rights organisations, including her efforts to provide legal assistance to Rohingya refugees during her tenure with the UNHCR in Myanmar by right wing accounts online.
A short bio of the independent legal professional, shared widely on social media, described her work supporting Rohingya refugees in IDP camps in Rakhine State and Sittwe. Didon was born on 5 December, 1996 and is aged 28.
Dolly Misri, wife of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, is currently the President of an organization called External Affairs Spouses Association (EASA) and this organization was established in the year 1971 to represent and support the spouses of Indian Foreign Service officers.
EASA has been actively involved in promoting a sense of community among its members and their families and it also has an EASA Charitable Trust (EASACT).
Vikram is a fellow of the Kamalnayan Bajaj Fellowship, which is currently the India leadership project of ASPEN Institute USA.
At present, the post of Foreign Secretary comes under the 7th Pay Commission and according to this commission, the Foreign Secretary gets a fixed basic salary of Rs 2,25,000 every month. This salary comes in Pay Level-17, which is one of the highest salary levels of the Government of India and apart from this, the Foreign Secretary also gets many types of government allowances and facilities.

The envoy was personally attacked with insults like “Traitor,” “Gaddar,” and “Deshdrohi,” and some of the posters even included his daughters in the scandal by raising doubts about their citizenship.
However, some users denounced the abuse, pointing out that Misri’s family was singled out and that the attacks were personal. They condemned the hate speech and doxxing and urged civil dialogue.
Vikram Misri’s briefing
On Thursday, May 8, Vikram Misri stated that Pakistan is to blame for the escalation, claiming that the current tensions were brought on by the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. He emphasized that Operation Sindoor was the only way India responded.

“Our approach is not to escalate the situation; we only responded to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack,” Misri said at a press briefing amid rising hostilities between the two neighbours. The attack resulted in 26 deaths, most of them tourists.
Misri declared on Friday that Kartarpur Sahib services have been halted because of the current security scenario. The corridor will remain suspended due to existing security scenarios until further directions he said during a press event in New Delhi.
Vikram Misri’s career
Vikram Misri is a member of the Indian Foreign Service and has been India’s 35th Foreign Secretary since July 2024. He formerly held the positions of ambassador of India to China from January 2019 to December 2021 and Deputy National Security Advisor of India from January 2022 to July 2024.
Previously, he was the Indian ambassador to Spain and Myanmar and the private secretary to Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh, Narendra Modi, and Inder Kumar Gujral.
