Liverpool has officially been declared the 2024–2025 Premier League winner.

In front of a sold-out Anfield crowd, the Reds defeated Tottenham to win the title in a fairytale finale. And the fans came out in full force, filling the blue skies of England with a trail of scarlet mist. Liverpool have won the Premier League title twice, and this is their 20th overall English top-flight championship.

The Premier League Handbook’s rule C.13 states that the winners are awarded 40 commemorative medals. As long as a player has participated in at least five of the team’s league games that season, the club is allowed to give these to its manager as well as any other players and officials it deems appropriate.

Currently, 21 Liverpool players will automatically receive a medal since they have appeared for the team five or more times in the Premier League.

Premier League prize money

In sports, it’s typical for individual winners, like Wimbledon tennis players or golfers who win major events like The Masters to get prize money.

However, there isn’t a separate reward fund for winning the Premier League.

The Premier League’s central payments give the highest merit reward to the team that finishes first out of the 20 clubs in the division. Sheffield United, the poorest team, received the lowest merit award (£1.1 million) last year, while Manchester City, the winners, claimed the highest payout of £22.6 million.

Last season, the 20 clubs earned anywhere between £175.9 million ($228 million) and £109.7 ($142.2 million) for their participation in the league.

Manchester City earned £56.4 million ($73.1 million by today’s rate) for winning the title and from there, each side earned £2.8 million ($3.6 million) less than the side above them, beginning with runners-up Arsenal at £53.6 million ($69.5 million) and ending with last-place Sheffield United at £2.8 million ($3.6 million).

In 2023-24, Premier League clubs each received £31.2 million ($40.4 million) from domestic broadcasting rights and £55.7 million ($72.2 million) from international broadcasting rights, totaling £86.7 million ($112.4 million) and all 20 clubs also received £8.2 million ($10.6 million) from central commercial revenue streams, bringing the equal share distribution to £94.9 million ($123 million).

Apart from internal bonuses, external sponsors, such as Nike, are likely to pay out additional bonuses as well and Liverpool are reportedly set to earn an extra £2 million from their kit deal after clinching the title in the 2024/25 season.

Premier League trophy

Liverpool gets the Premier League Trophy with the club’s colors, red and white ribbons. There are two identical Trophies, each with an etched base listing previous Premier League winners. One remains with the Premier League winners throughout the season, and the League uses the other.

Each trophy measures 2 feet (61 cm) wide and 3 feet 5 inches (104 cm) tall. Its overall weight is 4st (25.4kg). The base that has the victors’ names etched on it weighs 2.5st (15.9kg) of that total weight.

The value of the silver the main body of the trophy is made from is around £3,700 and it has previously been given to clubs that were crowned winners prior to the season’s conclusion at their last home game.

For Liverpool, that would be the matchup against Crystal Palace at Anfield on May 25, the last day of the season. However, it is too soon to predict when it will occur. Because it would be the first time the club would receive the Premier League Trophy in front of a packed Anfield stadium, the occasion will hold special meaning for Liverpool supporters.

Due of the COVID-19 pandemic, Liverpool’s stadium was empty when they were declared champions in 2019–20.
