The now-popular phrase “All eyes on Pahalgam” comes as an offshoot of the “All eyes on” social media trend. The trend went viral during the humanitarian crisis in Rafah, Gaza, and it has since become a global expression used to highlight various atrocities related to human suffering. Following the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the slogan has now resurfaced, flooding social media platforms like Instagram, X, and other platforms with Indians using it to bring attention to the terror attack in Kashmir, India.

The trend also features all kinds of AI-generated visuals and emotional tributes. Aside from serving as a phrase about raising awareness, it also serves as a public outcry against the targeting of innocent civilians.

Pahalgam terror attack

The tragic incident took place on April 22, when several armed terrorists ambushed a group of tourists in Pahalgam. According to several eyewitnesses, the attackers specifically targeted non-locals despite killing some locals as well. The massacre seemingly left about 26 people dead, including an Indian Navy officer named Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was on his honeymoon.

Narendra Modi’s reactions

In response to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his official trip to Saudi Arabia and returned to India. Following his arrival, he held several urgent meetings with top officials, including external affairs minister S. Jaishankar, foreign secretary Vikram Misri, and NSA Ajit Doval. PM Modi also condemned the attack and posted the following on X:

I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected.”

He further stated:

Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice… they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger.”
