Luis Suarez bites Jordi Alba during LAFC vs Inter Miami CONCACAF Champions Cup match, video goes viral
Despite having a 1-0 lead going into the match and scoring the opening goal in the ninth minute, Lionel Messi and defender Noah Allen’s goals sealed LAFC’s passage to the next round. “Messi is the soul of this team. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable talking about him because I’ve known him for 20 years now, and I have to help him in this stage of his career,” Mascherano said after the game.
Miami’s 3-1 victory over LAFC was secured by Messi’s well-placed penalty shot in the 84th minute, giving the David Beckham-owned team a 3-2 aggregate victory over the two games.
However, one moment which has gone viral from the fixture is a video showing Luis Suarez apparently biting his own teammate, Jordi Alba’s fingers. The incident which has taken over social media has once again brought back Suarez’s biting tendencies with the footballer having a rich history of having bitten opponent players with him deciding to turn on his own teammate this time.
Suarez was seen pulling his teeth back once he realized the player he was attempting to bite was Alba during a fracas which had broken out during the encounter.
Luis Suarez also praised Lionel Messi’s leadership after his game-changing effort that led to an Inter Miami comeback.
“Leo told us during the game, and Jordi told us that even if the other team scored, we needed to remain calm,” Suarez told.
“The possibilities would be the same, we needed to score three goals to win. With the experience, hierarchy and players that we have, we did it.”
Since joining the team in 2023, the 37-year-old Lionel Messi has contributed 63 goals overall and has scored in all but two of his games.
The Vancouver Whitecaps will now play Inter Miami in the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals.
On Sunday, they will play the Chicago Fire in the MLS as they attempt to improve on their current second-place position.
On and off the field, Lionel Messi led the squad to victory. According to teammate Luis Suárez, the captain told the teammates to keep their composure so they might find opportunities in front of the goal.
Messi ultimately made history for host Inter Miami by scoring the penalty in the 84th minute of the game, guaranteeing a place in the international championship quarterfinals. Previously, in 2024, the squad lost to CF Monterrey in the quarterfinals.
Steve Cherundolo, the head coach of LAFC, acknowledged that he told his players how important it was to protect Messi, but the number 10 managed to flourish in the closing third.
“Look, you’re talking about one of the greatest to ever play this sport. And from my liking, the second half, you had a little too much freedom,” Cherundolo said.
