Have a look at the meaning of Thala and Thalasons in English and Hindi explained
Following his game-winning runs against MI in the third match of the IPL 2025 season, Rachin Ravindra’s abuse by Thalasons on social media reached a new level. Rachin was singled out by Instagram users for denying MS Dhoni the strike in the last over, which would have allowed him to complete the match.
In the third IPL 2025 match, CSK defeated MI by a margin of four wickets. MI only managed 155 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the first inning, which was a poor batting performance. During his outstanding spell, Noor Ahmad took four wickets for CSK.

In addition, Khaleel Ahmed took three wickets to halt MI’s progress. But Mumbai lost the game because of Rachin Ravindra’s half-century in the second inning.
MS Dhoni fans attack Rachin Ravindra
To drive CSK’s chase and lead his team to victory in the last over, Rachin Ravindra struck 65* off 45 balls. The home fans in Chepauk erupted in cheers as MS Dhoni batted after CSK lost Ravindra Jadeja in a hilarious mix-up.
Rachin hit the winning runs for CSK with a six on the first delivery of the final over, but Dhoni was unable to score any runs in the two balls he faced. However, Rachin’s massive hit did not sit well with Dhoni fans who are also referred to as Thalasons. Thalasons is a named given by opposition team fans in the IPL to supporters of MS Dhoni to mock how his fans and a string of Indian cricketers and commentators glaze over everything Dhoni does with Ambati Rayadu a name who tops the list.
According to Urban Dictionary, a Thalason is someone who credits MSD for the creation of Universe and feels orgasmic for last ball sixes. Someone that believes Dhoni> Bolt in sprinting, stumping speed > speed of light. Love to see India lose so that they can bring up ” Once upon a time there was a guy who used to change matches behind the stumps” and don’t care about their team’s win or defeat as long as Dhoni hits a boundary.
Since Dhoni batted for CSK for the first time this IPL 2025 season, everyone wanted to watch him make the winning runs in his trademark fashion.

The word “Thala” or “Thalai” in Tamil means “Leader” or “Head.” CSK supporters affectionately refer to MS Dhoni as “Thala,” while Suresh Raina is known as “Chinna Thala,” which translates to “Deputy leader.”
Mahi, Captain Cool, and MSD are among MS Dhoni’s other nicknames. For CSK supporters, however, he is just Thala, their captain, their leader, their primary character, and their symbol.
In a post-match press conference during the 2019 IPL, Dhoni was questioned about his moniker, Thala. The wicketkeeper, who was born in Ranchi, remarked that receiving this moniker from the CSK supporters felt unique.
“It’s a big nickname that they have given me. It feels really special. I didn’t realize that it was part of the first CSK song. The way I got accepted and the whole of Tamil Nadu — don’t call my name, they call me ‘Thala’. It’s very nice and they have always supported not only me but the whole team,” Dhoni said.
Dhoni fans expectations are funny sometimes, they want all the players to lose to him and do jalra for him to get a cringe tag thalason
If they are not doing so, they will be hated by dhoni fandom https://t.co/uPyezm9MhI— cobbツMI💙😎 (@141off255) March 26, 2025
