Tata Open, also known as Tata Open Maharashtra is a tennis tournament of men that is organised on an outdoor hard court in Pune. The tournament comes under ATP Tour 250 series on ATP Tour.

The previous champions of the Tata Open were Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic in singles and a pair of Swedish Jiri Vesely and Christoper Rungkat of Indonesia in doubles.

The tournament started on January 30 and ended today with both of the categories’ finals today (Singles & Doubles).

In singles, Portugal’s Joao Sousa faced Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori while in doubles, Australian pair of John-Patrick Smith faced Indian pair Ramkumar Ramanathan and Rohan Bopanna.

Joao Sousa vs Emil Ruusuvuori 

The youngster from Finland Emil Ruusuvuori had reached the ATP World Tour final by defeating Kamil Majchrzak on Saturday in the semis to fix a clash with Sousa but his journey ends at the final when the Portuguese outlasted him with a score of 7-6 (9), 4-6, 6-1 in the game that lasted two hours and 43 minutes at the Balewadi Sports Complex.

Sousa took the chance in the first break, the Portuguese hit a forehand wide at deuce in the fifth game. At last, Sousa clinched the trophy with the breakpoint at last with an outstanding back and pass.

Luke Saville and John-Patrick Smith vs Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar Ramanathan 

The Indian pair clinched the title on Sunday defeating the Australian pair to win their second ATP World Tour trophy together.

In the game that lasted for 1 hour and 44 minutes, Bopanna-Ramanathan outlasted the Aussie pair 6-7(10), 6-3, 10-6.

Indian pair, took advantage of Luke’s error in the second set when he made a volley error on the deuce point and Bopanna managed to save a break chance. The Indian pair broke in the ninth game and the game went to the decider where Bopanna launched a volley to convert a set point and ended the game in their favour.

Joao Sousa along with 250 rankings points, take home $46,175 while the Runner-up Emil Ruusuvuori will go with $32,320.

Meanwhile, Bopanna and Ramanathan will split USD 16370 as well as earned 250 rankings points each.
