A story circulated on social media in February 2025 that Mary Kate Cornett, a student at the University of Mississippi, had cheated on her boyfriend Evan with his own father, banker Erik Solis with his wife and Evan both aware of the affair. A picture of someone’s phone displaying a string of SnapChat messages detailing a purported affair between Mary Kate and Evan’s father initially sparked the rumours online.

Mary Kate Cornett allegedly had an affair with the father of her lover Evan, Private Banker Erik Solis, according to a widely circulated tweet by X user @MAGAgeddon. A screenshot of a Snapchat message stating that Cornett had left early after finishing her examinations was cited in the piece. According to reports, she and Evan’s father went to a basketball game with Evan’s younger sister.

The alleged affair between Cornett and Solis began when they went out for drinks later that night. According to additional allegations in the widely shared post, Solis comforted Cornett about his past of adultery by admitting that he had cheated on his wife several times. According to rumours, Evan finally found out about the affair, although he and Cornett later made up. According to reports, Solis’ wife was aware of the circumstances but was thinking about getting a divorce for unrelated reasons.
Mary Kate Cornett’s response
Justin Cornett, Mary Kate’s father, described the controversy surrounding his daughter as a “totally and categorically false, malicious, organized cyber-attack” in a Facebook post.
Justin, his wife Leslie and daughter Mary are all spending time together in Oxford, Mississippi, the city where the University of Mississippi resides as the 18-year-old freshman at Ole Miss has been dragged on the internet for allegedly sleeping with her boyfriend’s father which resulted in her being treated “like she wasn’t a human being” online, according to Leslie.
Justin says he and Leslie flew from Houston to be with their daughter when this story started taking off but, despite being with Mary Kate to keep her safe, he says “we felt absolutely helpless.”
The family has now filed a police report citing cyberbullying against Mary with she and her boyfriend Evan both denying the claims on their Instagram accounts.

Mary Kate Cornett has been doxxed, according to her father, and her family has had to “take protective measures to ensure her safety.”

Furthermore, according to Justin Cornett, the family has reported the incident to the Oxford police department and the University of Mississippi, and the FBI even contacted them.
“At this stage, we suspect this is some sort of fraternity prank that has mushroomed out of control,” Cornett wrote. “I refuse to let my family be targeted and am fully committed to pursuing all criminal and civil actions available.”
He went on to attach a statement from Mary Kate, who also dubbed the rumors as “categorically false and defamatory,” citing “edited screenshots, fake AI-generated videos and manipulated photographs” being used against her.

“Thousands of harassing calls and texts of a sick and demented nature, some of which suggest I even take my own life,” Mary Kate added.
In the end, Mary Kate and her father emphasized that many victims of these cyberattacks lack the means to combat such defamation, and they have launched a GoFundMe page to create a foundation to assist victims in similar circumstances. As of this writing, the fund has raised more than $11,000.
