Over the years, the Bangladesh Premier League has become subjected to ridicule owing to the antics which have taken place in the land of the competition. Apart from cricket, the league has emerged in the limelight for almost every shenanigan under the roof with another bemusing bit of development emerging from BPL 2022.
Batsman Mohammad Shahzad was captured on video smoking a cigarette on Friday during the showdown between Minister Dhaka and Comilla Victorians. Mizanur Rahman and Tamim Iqbal were seen intervening after being informed of the incident with them captured escorting Shahzad back to the pavilion. The player has since been handed one demerit point with him found guilty of breaching Article 2.20 of the BCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which entails conduct which is considered to be against the spirit of the game. Shahzad went onto admit to the offence.
BCB’s chief match referee and convener of the technical committee Rokibul Hasan said, “It contradicts the code of conduct. Smoking on the ground is strictly prohibited. It’s unacceptable. If he [Shahzad] is not aware of this, the match officials should warn him.”
Both the clashes on Friday in the league were meanwhile truncated owing to inclement weather.
