On January 31, 2025, a medical transport jet crashed by the Roosevelt Mall, injuring several people on the ground besides its passengers.
The 10-year-old boy, Andre has been making a miraculous recovery after protecting his younger sister from the flying debris of a medical transport plane that crashed in Philadelphia last week.
“Daddy, did I save my sister?” was one of the first things Trey Howard asked his father after he woke up following emergency brain surgery, his father Andre Howard Jr. said. He had gone out for donuts with three of his kids when the plane crashed Friday night.

According to reports, the tragic accident killed seven people, including all six passengers on board and one person on the ground.
Andre “Trey” Howard successfully undergoes brain surgery
During the tragic incident, metal debris struck Eagles fan Trey in the head, and medical officials had to take him to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. While there, André underwent a brain surgery with a very low chance of survival. However, despite the circumstances, Andre miraculously woke up and quickly asked his dad about two pressing matters.
He woke from surgery and almost immediately asked about his sister after his father assured him that he hadn’t missed the Super Bowl game between his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Kansas City Chiefs.
He first asked if his sister was safe and them about the upcoming Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. According to his father, Andre Howard Jr.:
He asked me, ‘Daddy, what’s today?’ I was like, ‘Monday.’ ‘OK, wait. We didn’t play yesterday did we?’ ‘No, you didn’t miss the Super Bowl,’ ” father told ABC News.

The father further added:
‘You told us to get down. I was just trying to help my sister … next thing I know, I thought I died.”
Philadelphia plane crash
On Friday, January 31, 2025, a medical transport jet fatally crashed around the Roosevelt Mall, injuring at least 24 people and killing seven. Among the dead included, the six passengers and one on ground. During the time of the accident, Trey and his younger siblings, aged 4 and 7, were in the car alongside their father picking up donuts. Andre recalled the incident, stating:
Sounded like a missile was firing bullets, metal at my car, everyone else’s car. You see a car on fire, a man walking on fire. It was just crazy.”
As the debris from the crash flew everywhere, Trey grabbed his sister to protect her before getting struck by metal. Andre reportedly rushed to stop the bleeding using a pair of used socks and another man’s shirt. Following which the police rushed the boy and his family to the hospital.

The family has since created a GoFundMe in order to pay for Trey’s medical expenses not covered by insurance. The fund will also cover his rehabilitation and physical therapy expenses.
