DC plane crash
A tragic plane crash took place in Washington, DC, when an American Airlines plane collided with an Army helicopter while approaching the Reagan National Airport. The incident, which took place before 9 p.m., saw the plane crash into the Potomac River. The American Airlines plane, flight 5342, was bound for Washington, D.C., from Wichita, Kansas.
Aside from Jonathan, the other crew members on board the plane that passed away included 29-year-old co-pilot and first officer Samuel Lilley, 53-year-old Flight Attendant Ian Epstein, and 34-year-old Flight Attendant Danasia Elder.
Amongst the dead passengers were fourteen members of the U.S. Figure Skating team, and their parents and coaches. The skaters were headed to Washington, D.C., from a training camp following the U.S. Championships in Kansas. Amongst the group were famous skating champion couple turned coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov.

Jonathan Campos was a commercial airline pilot who was born in New York, and spent his childhood in Ormond Beach, Florida. Campos sadly passed away recently following a fatal plane crash on January 29, 2025. He was just 34 years old at the time of his death.
Captain Jonathan Campos, graduated from Embry-Riddle and trained to be a certified flight instructor in New Smyrna Beach.
“He was an amazing person,” Campos’ family member, Edward Campos said. “He loved flying. He loved his family.”
Captain Jonathan Campos lived in Ormond Beach and graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2015 and the private university focuses on aviation and aerospace programs.
Campos was a graduate of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and became a certified flight instructor in 2017. He also obtained his commercial pilot license in 2017 after attending the Epic Flight Academy. According to reports, Mr. Campos worked for PSA Airlines for the last eight years, and became a captain in 2022. According to his uncle, Hector Campos, Jonathan was very passionate about the aviation industry and loved flying airplanes. His aunt Beverly Lane also shared that Campos wanted to become a pilot from the time he was 3-years-old.
