Sadie Schreiner gets snubbed

Sadie recently sought to transfer this year to a Division I program but got rejected or snubbed multiple times. Despite winning two-time All-American honors for the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, Sadie seems to be facing multiple rejections. Schreiner is currently a junior and reportedly contacted 42 Division I universities. She stated during an interview:

After entering the transfer portal, it quickly became clear that among all the hurdles transfers usually have, there is an extra layer because I was trans. Fifty percent of the country banned me from participating, and that meant I couldn’t attend any of those colleges even if they reached out to me with full rides.”

She further added how twenty-four states have no such restrictions but still get rejected by college administrators. Schreiner said:

It also became clear that even in the states that did, no matter how adamant the coaches were to have me on their teams, the college administrations would usually stop them from allowing me to participate.”

Reaction from netizens

Sadie’s statements have seemingly caused all kinds of reactions and backlash. Her recent experience serves as a sign how universities are refusing to send male-born players in women’s sports. This trend comes despite such athletes helping their programs win championships, finding as they aren’t worth the backlash. An X account named “I Heart Bikes”, stated:

The tide is turning. Male track and field athlete Sadie (Camden) Schreiner, who only competes in the women’s category, is having trouble finding an @ncaa D1 school to transfer to.”

Czech tennis legend Martina Navratilova also shared a message for Schreiner stating:

Please keep documenting. You are free to compete. In the male category. Very simple. And also fair.”

Career

Sadie Schreiner has so far found success, setting new records and winning multiple track titles during the 2023/24 track season. Last year, Schreiner fell short at the NCAA Division III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship in May. She finished third in the 200-meter and eighth in the 400-meter races. Schreiner is currently not listed on the 2024/25 women’s track and field roster at Rochester. Throughout her career, Sadie has competed across various events and won multiple titles.

She won the All-American twice and won the Atlantic Region Outdoor 200 Champion. Sadie also won the Liberty League in the 200 and 400 events. She finished the Liberty League outdoor season ranked first in the 200 and second in the 400 meters.

Sadie Schreiner also set program records in the 200, 300, and 400 during the indoor season and was a part of the first-place 4×400 relay team. She also finished first in the 200 and second in the 400 at the Liberty League Indoor Championships. Schriener then won the Atlantic Region Indoor Championships in the 200. She also won the 200 at the Atlantic Region Outdoor Championships.
