Have a look at the bio, age, height and weight of Dodgers player Joseph Deng

Joseph Deng considers the trip from South Sudan to the Dodgers’ organization to be quite remarkable. In Africa, baseball is still growing, and nations like South Africa and Uganda are making progress.

In case you were unaware, the Dodgers have been in the news lately. They won the World Series for the first time in 36 years in October. They inked two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million deal the following month.

They have now added Korean standout Hyeseong Kim, Japanese sensation pitcher Roki Sasaki, and slugging outfielder Teoscar Hernández to their roster in offseason deals.

The Dodgers signed 17-year-old pitcher Joseph Deng on Saturday, becoming him the first South Sudanese player to sign a professional baseball deal, although Sasaki was the star of this year’s international class.

The Pirates signed infielder Armstrong Muhoozi from Uganda, and now Joseph Deng, a 6-foot-7, 185-pound right-handed pitcher with a fastball speed of 95 mph, is the second player from Africa to sign this year and the first from South Sudan to sign a professional baseball contract as he joins the Dodgers’ 2025 international class.

Deng is only 17 years old, so he has lots of time to build out his tall, lanky form. His lengthy legs have plenty of room to fill out, and once he gains strength, he can keep adding velocity.

As he sets off on a baseball career that can potentially lead to triple digits, his already amazing fastball could get much better. He is said to be the first South Sudanese player to ever sign a big-league deal.

Although the Dodgers, like the Blue Jays and Padres, put their signings on hold until Sasaki told them where he would be signing, the international signing window for this season opened on January 15. The Dodgers have begun to recruit players from their 2025 class, including Deng, as well as a number of players from Latin America, now that Sasaki has agreed to join the organization and the team has more bonus pool capacity.

Few teams, other from the Dodgers, have a scouting presence in Africa, whereas teams scout in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and other Latin American nations to sign players. After Ugandan infielder Armstrong Muhoozi, Deng is the second player from Africa to be signed this year.
