His parents were Satish Chandra Nandy and Prafulla Nalini Nandy and Pritish completed his schooling at La Martiniere, where his mother was a teacher. He had two brothers named Ashis and Manish Nandy.

He co-founded Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) in 1993, which became a trailblazer in the Indian film industry. His production company played a pivotal role in the rise of multiplex cinema in India. Some of his most famous films include Pyaar Ke Side Effects (2006), Ugly Aur Pagli (2008), and Mastizaade (2016). His works garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, earning him prestigious awards, including the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award.
In 1998, he ventured into politics and was elected to the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of the Indian Parliament) as a member of the Shiv Sena party, representing Maharashtra.
