On November 20, 1979, age 45 Shalini whose height stands at 167 cm was born into a Protestant Malayali Christian home to Babu and Alice with her and husband Ajith who is aged 53 having an eight year age difference. Shalini’s family settled in Madras after her father moved there with the goal of becoming an actor. His children later helped him achieve his goal. Both her elder brother Richard and younger sister Shamili work as performers in the motion picture business and are actors.
Shalini went to Adarsh Vidyalaya in Chennai from ninth to tenth grade, Church Park in Chennai from eleventh and twelfth grade, and Fatima Matriculation Higher Secondary School from K.G. to eighth grade. She attended Annamalai University for her further education.
Shalini started dating her co-star Ajith Kumar in 1999 while filming Saran’s Amarkalam. He then asked Shalini to marry him. On April 24, 2000, they got married in Chennai.
