Janis Timma, a basketball player from Latvia, tragically passed away in Moscow on Monday after seemingly committing suicide.

According to local sources, a phone was discovered close to the body of Janis Timma with a callback message from his ex-wife, Ukrainian singer Anna Sedokova. The cause of death has not yet been formally announced by authorities or representatives but it is largely believed to be suicide.

The 32-year-old’s body was discovered inside the entrance of a residential block in central Moscow and Timma died of asphyxiation with him dying on his ex-wife’s 42nd birthday.

Timma and Russian singer Sedokova had been candid about their relationship’s challenges before filing for divorce earlier this year due to their public marital issues. In the past, Timma had talked about his personal suffering and accused Anna of putting money before their marriage. As inquiries into the precise cause of his death continue, the couple’s tumultuous relationship history has come to light again.

32-year-old Janis Timma was born on 2 July 1992 to Ausma Timma and Raitis Timma. He was 6ft 7in tall. In September 2020, Timma married his second wife Anna Sedokova, a Russian-Ukrainian pop artist. On December 9, 2024, Sedokova submitted her divorce petition in what her third marriage. While she and Janis didn’t have any children together, Anna had three children from her previous marriages.

Janis and his first wife Sana got married in 2016 after almost seven years of dating and the wedding took place in the Bahamas. In 2018, their son Kristians Timma was born and during his marriage, Timma began a relationship with Anna Sedokova with him divorcing Sana in 2019.

Before her marriage to Janis, Anna had been married twice and her first marriage was to Belarusian footballer Valyantsin Byalkevich in 2004, with whom she had a daughter named Alina.

The marriage ended in divorce in 2006 and her second marriage was to businessman Maxim Chernyavsky between February 2011 and February 2013 and Anna’s second daughter Monika was born during their time together.

Janis Timma’s father, Raitis, shared that they hadn’t spoken in three years and had a scary relationship before his son’s death.

In an Instagram post on December 16, he included both his birthday and Sedokova’s birthday as the date of his death. However, the post was later removed. At the age of 32, Timma passed away on December 17, 2024. His remains were discovered in the lobby of a tall skyscraper in the heart of Moscow.

No criminal leads were being pursued, according to the police, who assumed Timma’s death was a suicide.

Janis Timma submitted his application in the 2013 NBA draft. The Memphis Grizzlies selected him with the final choice (60th overall).

Timma’s draft rights were given to the Orlando Magic by the Memphis Grizzlies on June 24, 2015, in return for Luke Ridnour. Timma played for the Magic’s Summer League squad in Las Vegas in 2021, making his debut on August 10 with 11 points. His unusual blonde tattooed appearance caught attention online as a 29-year-old rookie, and fans began making jokes about it.

Since the Lakeland Magic owned Timma’s draft rights, he signed with them on January 31, 2022.

Timma committed to Grises de Humacao of the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) on December 23, 2022, for the duration of the season. He joined Darüşşafaka of the Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL) on September 22, 2023.

Timma joined Liga ACB’s Monbus Obradoiro on February 18, 2024.
