“If the tricolour is missed once while mentioning Punjab in a tweet, it’s called a conspiracy. Even in a tweet about Bengaluru, it was missed once. If Punjab is written as Panjab, it’s called a conspiracy. Whether you write it as Panjab or Punjab… it will always remain Punjab,” he wrote in Punjabi.

A fan reposted the singer’s post and wrote, “Why are you even bothering. some people have no work to do but to troll !! Life mein sabko explanation dena zaruri nai hai… You are here because of your fans who are as young as two years old.”

“I don’t pay attention to these things,” the singer clarified, “but when false claims are tweeted repeatedly, they start to seem true, so it’s important to address them.”

Many contended that the Pakistani side of the region is largely linked to this spelling. They charged him with quietly advancing Punjab’s Pakistani identity.

Diljit Dosanjh explained that the name’s derivation is Persian and it means “Land of the Five Rivers” (panj means five and ab means water). According to him, Punjab’s identity is unaffected by spelling variations in English, a colonial language.

Why people were angry with wrong spelling?

The English spelling of the region’s name during British colonial administration was Panjab. In certain situations, this differentiation persisted after the division. For example, the Indian equivalent chose the name Panjab University, but the university in Lahore continued to use Punjab University.

“Punjab” & “Panjab” both mean the same and both are correct and are correct to use in India much like the different names of other states and areas. The original name is Panjab hich means LAND OF FIVE RIVERS (The Jheelum Cheenab, Raavi, Beas & Sutlej) and had been changed to Punjab which also means the same.
