In response to suits seeking surveys of mosques and dargahs allegedly constructed over temples, former Supreme Court judge Justice Rohinton Nariman said Thursday that a portion of the Apex Court’s ruling on the Ayodhya dispute, pertaining to the Places of Worship Act, could be cited across the nation’s courts.
Justice Rohinton Nariman called the ruling on the Ram Mandir-Babri Mosque a “travesty of justice to secularism” in his opening address for the Ahmadi Foundation, which was founded in honour of Justice Aziz Mushabber Ahmadi, the 26th Chief Justice of India (CJI).
However, according to the former judge of the Apex Court, there was a bright side to the Constitution Bench’s five-page ruling upholding the Places of Worship Act of 1991.

Rohinton Fali Nariman is a former judge of the Supreme Court of India and before being elevated as a judge, he practised as a senior counsel at the Supreme Court. He was appointed the Solicitor General of India on 23 July 2011 and also served as a member of the Bar Council of India.
He was born on 13 August, 1956 in Mumbai in a Parsi family which followed the Zoroastrianism religion and is aged 68. He was born to Fali Nariman, a senior advocate while his mother was Bapsi F Nariman with him having a sister named Anaheeta as well. Rohinton is married to Sanaya Nariman.
Justice Nariman was ordained as a Parsi priest when he was 12 years old and wrote a book in 2016 about contemporary Zoroastrianism and in November 2016, his book on the Zoroastrian religion and an analysis of the Gathas, The Inner Fire, was released. The book is an analysis of the Gathas.
Justice Rohinton Nariman was placed second at the University of Delhi after pursuing his legal education at the Faculty of Law. He attended Harvard Law School to obtain his master’s degree in law, and his thesis contrasted affirmative action in the United States with India. Fali S. Nariman, a renowned jurist, is Rohinton’s father.
He did his B.Com from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi, LLB from Campus Law Centre of Faculty of Law, University of Delhi and LLM from the Harvard Law School.

Justice Rohinton Nariman career
In the Swiss Ribbons Pvt Ltd v. Union of India case, Justice Rohinton Nariman led the Division bench that maintained the legality of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. It was decided that there is a discernible difference between operational and financial creditors since the former would benefit from the release of liquidity since it would bring capital into the economy and encourage more lending.
Additionally, Nariman J noted that the Code’s implementation greatly decreased defaults and bad debt.
The minimum age requirements were changed in 1993 by then Chief Justice Venkatachalaiah, who appointed Justice Rohinton Nariman as a Senior Advocate at the age of 37.
