But to keep in mind that there will be no demonstration sports at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, as all the events that are taking place are for a medal.
But, the absence of demonstration sports doesn’t mean that there will be fewer sporting events in the winter Olympics rather the number of games has increased in the Beijing Winter Olympics. Before there were 102 events in Pyeongchang four years ago and, now there are 109 events added to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will feature 109 events that are spread across 15 disciplines in seven winter sports. The breakdown includes Biathlon, Bobsledding -bobsleigh and skeleton both, Curling, Ice hockey, Luge, Skating – figure skating, short track speed skating, and speed skating, Skiing – alpine, cross-country, freestyle, nordic combined, ski jumping, and snowboarding.
In the Beijing Winter Olympics, the seven new sports that are added include the women’s mono bob, freestyle skiing big air that includes men’s and women’s both, and mixed team events in short track speed skating team relay, ski jumping, freestyle skiing aerials, and snowboard cross.
Monobob, one of the newest games that have been added in the Winter Olympics, from the newly added bobsledding event. In this one female will push and be in the sled all the way down the hill by herself. This helps in bringing gender balance to the sport, where women compete in two-person, but men compete in two-person and four-person, but unfortunately is no men’s mono bob at the Beijing games.
In the newly featured games, there are also new mixed-gender team events in a snowboard cross relay, a short-track speed skating relay, and new dual-gender team events in ski jumping and aerial freestyle skiing.
The United States this year as well will be sending almost 80 athletes to compete in Beijing that will include some familiar faces. Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin will be looking forward to her medal haul at her third Olympics.
Shiffrin, who won gold in Sochi, and added two more medals in PyeongChang will be also eyeing more medals this winter Olympics in Beijing.
Veteran curler John Shuster, who has represented Team USA at every Winter Games dating back to 2006, will also look towards his second Olympic gold in Beijing.
