After the jury’s decision in Nikita Hand case, Proximo Spirits, which acquired Conor McGregor’s Whisky brand in 2021 and continued to use the fighter’s name and image has now announced the decision to sever ties with him.

In their statement, Proximo Spirits stated, “Since 2021, Proximo Spirits has been the 100% owner of Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey. Going forward, we do not plan to use Mr. McGregor’s name and likeness in the marketing of the brand.”

Conor McGregor, whose full name is Conor Anthony McGregor, was born on July 14, 1988, in Dublin, Ireland. Standing at 5 ft. 8 in (173 cm) and weighing 155 lb. (70 Kg), McGregor is an Irish professional mixed martial artist, professional boxer, businessman, and actor.

The 36-year-old is a former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion, who made the history by becoming the first UFC fighter to hold UFC championship in two weight classes simultaneously.

The businessman sold the Proper No. 12 Whiskey to Proximo Spirits for a sum of $600 million in 2021. Various reports suggest that McGregor’s stake in the brand was approximately $130 million when it was sold to New Jersey-based company and he now longer has an ownership stake in the company although it still used his likeness to promote the brand.

Conor McGregor helped create Proper in 2018 and sold a majority of the brand in 2021 to Proximo, which owns other spirits like tequila Jose Cuervo and whiskey Bushmills.

Net sales for the rest-of-the-world region increased by 7.9% as the Mexico market, reported a 17.7% rise, following premiumization efforts and price increases.
