A Bangladeshi Hindu monk, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, who is also a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote. He was arrested by Bangladeshi authorities on Monday on the charges of sedition.
These Sedition charges against Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari came into the spotlight after allegations of disrespecting the national flag during a rally in Chattogram’s New Market area.
The rally event was reportedly organized by the Hindu community. As per various reports, the rally involved saffron flags in place of the Bangladeshi National flags, which prompted a complaint from a leader of Bangladesh Nationalist party.

Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the spokesperson of Bangladesh’s Sanatan Jagaran Manch and the head of Pundarik Dham in Chittagong was sent to jail in a sedition case. The Bangladesh Sommilito Sanatan Jagaran Jot, is a newly formed coalition between two religious bodies, namely, Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Manch and Bangladesh Sommilito Shankhaloghu Jot which advocates for the rights of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.
Allegedly, a group of youths placed a saffron flag over the Bangladeshi flag on the Independent Pillar (Shadhinata Smathamva) at Zero Point in Dhaka for which ISKON monk Chinmoy including 18 others have been arrested. Chinmoy who was born in Bangladesh and is a Hindu by religion is single and unmarried. His age and DOB isn’t known.
Reportedly, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari had previously served as the divisional organizing secretary of the ISKCON in Chittagong. Though, he was expelled from the organization recently.

Reports suggest that Das also served as the head of the Pundarik Dham in Chattogram. His recent arrest has sparked widespread protests by members of the Hindu community in Dhaka, Chattogram, and other parts of Bangladesh.
Though, India has expressed the “deep concern” over Das’ detention and even called on Bangladesh to ensure the safety and security of minorities. On November 25, 2024, Das was taken into custody at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka by Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The following day, he was presented before the Chattogram Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, where Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam ordered his detention while rejecting his bail application.
In retaliation to his bail application being rejected, Das’ lawyers requested before the court for him to observe religious practices while being in custody. However, the court specifically directed adherence to prison regulations.
After the bail was denied by the Bangladeshi Court, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari’s supporters led a protest outside the court, which later escalated into violent clashes with law enforcement.
During these violent clash, as aforesaid, a public prosecutor, Saiful Islam Alif, was tragically killed. As per reports, Alif was attacked to death by an assailant.
