Phillip Hughes, a former Test opener, who tragically passed away on 27 November 2014 after being struck by a ball during a domestic match, was honored on Wednesday on the occasion of his 10th passing anniversary. Playing a Sheffield Shield game in Sydney, Hughes was hit when he missed a 135 kmph bouncer from pacer Sean Abbott as he an attempted hook, causing a cerebral hemorrhage.
He underwent surgery after being rushed to hospital from the SCG but did not regain consciousness after being put in an induced coma. Abbott bowled the fatal delivery that struck age 25 Hughes during a Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and South Australia in 2014.
Recently, social media platforms, especially X/Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit, have been buzzing with viral videos and pictures from the occasion of Philip Hughes’ passing anniversary.
The 10th passing anniversary of Hughes was held at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where the players of New South Wales and Tasmania gathered to tribute Hughes before the 4th day’s play.
In addition to players, Hughes’ friends, family members, and other cricketing community members gathered to pay tributes to the late 25-year-old player.
The ceremony included a minute’s silence, during which Sean Abbott was spotted visibly emotional and was caught supported by his teammates.

Who was Philip Hughes?
Phillip aka Phil Hughes, whose full name is Phillip Joel Hughes was born on November 30, 1988 in Macksville, New South Wales, Australia. The left-handed batter who stood at 5 ft 7 in (170 cm), was an Australian Test and ODI cricketer.
Philip, who was widely known by the nickname of Hughesy, Little Don, and Hugh Dog, played domestic cricket for South Australia and Worcestershire. The professional cricketer made his ODI debut in 2013.
At the age of 20, Hugh Dog made his Test debut in 2009, however, he played for two seasons with New South Wales before marking his Test debut.
Family
Speaking about Hughes’ family, he was born into Macksville, New South Wales, to a banana farmer, father and Italian mother. Before venturing into cricket, Phillip Hughes played rugby and he was a talented rugby player.

Reportedly, Little Don played football alongside former Australia international player Greg Inglis. Though, his focus switched to cricket and he started playing junior cricket for Macksville RSL Cricket Club at the tender age of 12.
By the age of 17, Little Don moved from Macksville to Sydney and started playing for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club in Sydney Grade Cricket. At the time, he scored 141 on his grade debut and enjoyed a solid 2006-07 season.
The cricketer represented Australia at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2008. He was unmarried and single.
