The Hoosiers are on the brink, but Indiana learned Tuesday night that it would still be in the CFP field. In the College Football Playoff rankings, Indiana came in at number ten. The Hoosiers are the final club in the 12-team field, though, due to the way the College Football Playoff bracket is constructed.
The field consists of the top five conference champions. in them, Arizona State, ranked No. 14 in the Big 12, is not in the top 12. Byes to the quarterfinals are granted to the top four conference winners. The top-seeded Mountain West Conference team, Boise State, which is ranked No. 11, leaps to the fourth seed in the bracket.
“We viewed Indiana, they played well at times against Ohio State and Ohio State pulled out a victory and really came on in the second half of that game, but we were impressed with some of the things Indiana did,” College Football Playoff committee chair Warde Manuel said.
