Christian stories and messages are also frequently incorporated into Oh Dad’s content. Oh Dad’s channel grew from roughly 1,300 subscribers to over 1.3 million in less than a week after TikToker @pudgykindness, also known as KindPenguins, shared a video about how he found it in November 2024.

The TikTok clip, which went viral highlighted Bill’s passion for fishing and his resilience after a life-threatening fall. The video shared how he survived a harrowing accident where he fell off a roof, breaking multiple ribs, both wrists, and a vertebrae and after recovering, Bill aka Fishing with Oh Dad resumed creating videos, though they garnered little attention over the years.
After TikToker Kindpenguins uploaded a video, YouTuber Fishing with “Oh Dad!” was taken aback as it amassed over a million subscribers.
A TikTok account called “PudgyKindness” shared a video on Thursday, November 21, featuring Oh Dad’s fishing footage and other fishing-related activities.
The caption said, “So I was scrolling through YouTube videos with no views, and found this old man who was making videos to no viewers. He loves to go fishing and showing off his gear. He enjoys life to its fullest.”
After that, it shifted to a video of Oh Dad, whose real name is Bill, explaining that he nearly died after breaking both of his wrists, seven ribs, and a vertebrae after falling from his house’s roof. Since then, he has healed and started creating videos again.
Before the TikTok video was uploaded on November 20, Fishing with “Oh Dad!” had just 1,320 followers. His account’s subscriber count quickly increased.
The day after PudgyKindness shared their video, Bill celebrated the enormous growth by uploading a video after surpassing 200,000 subscribers.
Oh Dad’s channel’s popularity
In just four days, TikToker @pudgykindness’s video compilation of Oh Dad’s videos, including those of his injuries, received nearly 66.4 million views on November 20, 2024. The TikToker in the video requests that viewers visit Oh Dad’s channel and “change his life.”
Oh Dad’s subscription count increased from 1,300 to nearly 1.33 million in the following four days. Oh Dad responded to the increase in subscribers in a video that he uploaded on YouTube a day later.
He acknowledged that he was considering quitting making videos until he noticed the impact of KindPenguins’ video and expresses gratitude to them directly for their assistance. In addition, he expresses gratitude to God and told how much he enjoys fishing and creating films.
