Action against Brijendra Kumar Yadav
Several doctors refused to work in protest of the IPS officer’s actions, causing a disturbance among the hospital’s medical personnel. After the hospital asked the Yadav and his wife, Anita Roy, to leave, the emergency services apparently continued.
According to the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, the surgery postgraduate resident, Dr Lakshya had to face verbal harassment and threats during duty. Bharani Kumar, president of the RDA, said that this incident happened on the night of November 24, when the resident doctor on duty was attending to a patient on a surgery reference call in the New SIC building.
The RDA urged the hospital’s management and authorities to take responsibility for the incident, stop it from happening again, and uphold the safety and dignity of medical personnel on hospital grounds.
“Such actions, particularly by a senior government official, are highly condemnable and violate the dignity of healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to serve patients. This unfortunate incident highlights the repeated challenges and harassment faced by doctors in the line of duty,” the statement read.
