Age 74 pensioner Leneghan was struck by a single-decker bus on November 2, around 7:25 pm. His family expressed their gratitude to the public and emergency responders for their assistance and requested privacy during this difficult time. Sergeant Paul Ewing from the Road Policing Unit conveyed his condolences to Michael’s family and friends. Police are still investigating, and footage from surrounding CCTV is being reviewed as part of their efforts.

Following the incident, Police Scotland appealed to the public, requesting they respect the privacy of Mr. Leneghan’s family and avoid sharing any images or videos of the event that had surfaced online. To investigate the scene, police closed off several streets, including Blair Street, Guthrie Street, and Candlemaker Row. A cordon was established, and additional coverings were placed on the South Bridge to obstruct the view from above.

Katie McLaughlin, a 31-year-old from Dumfries, reportedly shared with the Daily Record that she was in the vicinity during the incident. According to her, someone had mentioned that police were outside and a severed head had been discovered in Cowgate. Initially, she nearly laughed, assuming it was a Halloween prank.

Another individual who was present at Cowgate recounted to The Sun that they were enjoying time with friends at the Supercube karaoke bar when they were abruptly instructed to evacuate. Reports indicate that multiple witnesses observed the incident before authorities ordered early closures of bars, clubs, and hotels within the area. Despite police advisories discouraging the sharing of content, images and videos from the scene circulated widely on social media.
