WNBA team Connecticut Sun have reportedly decided to sack their head coach Stephanie White amidst the offseason. In her two seasons with the team, White has had a record of 55-25, with her postseason record being 7-7. After suffering two losses in the semifinal round, the team management decided to call it quits on her.
Just last year, White coached the 2023 WNBA All-Star Game and was honoured as the 2023 WNBA and AP Coach of the Year. The Sun has come close to winning the WNBA in recent years, losing four times in the semifinals and twice in the Finals across six seasons. Despite White’s .688 regular season winning percentage, the team eventually decided to let her go.

Stephanie Joanne White is an American former professional basketball player and coach who was born on June 20, 1977, in West Lebanon, Indiana, USA. She is the former head coach of the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA, after just recently getting sacked this week. White has previously worked as the head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores women’s basketball team from 2016-2021. Her current net worth stands at $5 million but her salary with the Suns isn’t known yet.

Profession and career
Prior to becoming a coach, White was a professional player who began her WNBA career with the Charlotte Sting. During her first year, in 1999, she started out playing under her married name, Stephanie White-McCarty. She later joined the Indiana Fever, with whom she played for four seasons before eventually retiring in 2004. During her time there, she ranked third in games played (112) and third in point field goals (92), as well as fourth in scoring (684). She also averaged around 5.9 points and 2.0 assists per game.
Following her retirement, White soon become the assistant coach at Ball State from 2003-04, and then Kansas State from 2004-05. She later took charge of the University of Toledo from 2005-06 and 2006-07, before joining the Chicago Sky. During her time there, she was involved in all aspects of the basketball program. This includes recruitment, on-floor coaching, scouting, as well as individual workouts and academic support.
White has also simultaneously served as a college basketball analyst for ESPN and the Big Ten Network since 2007. After spending four seasons with the Chicago Sky, White became the first former WNBA player to serve as an assistant coach with the Fevers. She eventually became the head coach on September 23, 2014, becoming the youngest active coach in the league. She eventually joined the Connecticut Sun, where she worked until her recent sacking.
