Sonia, born to migrant parents from Bihar, had seen her family struggle with limited means with her living with her family in Nangloi in Delhi. Her father worked as a fodder seller, while her mother toiled as a domestic worker. Financial constraints forced age 19 Sonia to leave school after completing Class X, her sister Neha revealed. Using the familyโ€™s modest savings, Sonia had bought a smartphone and dedicated her days to creating content, waking at 9 am to finish household chores and care for her dog before making reels.

Her passion for fashion and dressing up was evident; she loved buying new clothes and aspired to showcase her unique style. Neha also shared that Sonia had begun learning to use a sewing machine, practicing with determination as she envisioned designing and sewing her own clothes. The family lived in a rented house in Kamruddin Nagar, Nangloi, yet Sonia dreamed of securing a home of their own.

In August, Sonia’s mother, Rajani Devi, 50, noticed a change: Sonia had stopped going out entirely and began falling ill frequently. It was only then the family discovered her relationship with Sanju and learned she was five months pregnant. By October, she was seven months along, and though the family had accepted the pregnancy, they faced threats from the boy’s family. Despite the risk, Sonia continued seeing Sanju, who lived nearby.

Neighbors reported that Mohammed Saleem aka Sanju, unemployed and living with his parents and married elder brother, faced disapproval from his family regarding his relationship with Sonia who he had gotten pregnant. Tensions ran high between the two households due to the interfaith nature of the relationship. According to Rajani Devi, Sonia had tried to speak with Salim aka Sanjuโ€™s family in hopes of marriage, but her efforts were dismissed.
