The story revolves around Kirat Assi, who strikes up an online friendship with a person named Bobby Jandu who was actually her real cousin Simran Bhogan. Over time, the pairโs relationship turns from friendship to love, unbeknownst that her romance with Bobby Jandu would take a horrible turn. Kirat eventually has to uncover the truth behind Bobby and discovers that she was the victim of catfishing. Bobby actually turns out to be a relative of hers.
Kirat Assiโs catfish incident
Kiran Assi was the victim of a catfish incident involving a person claiming to be Bobby Jandu, who actually turned out to be Simran Bhogal, her female cousin. Simran had reportedly set up several fake social media accounts under the name of Bobby Jandu. She then sent Kirat a friend request, following which Kirat started exchanging messages, eventually developing into a strong friendship developed.
The pair continued messaging over several years, but always remained online as they never met in person. Kirat eventually received an update stating that Bobby got shot while in Kenya and was placed under witness protection. The pair eventually stopped contacting throughout this period, until Bobby started messaging her again from another account.
Kirat often tried to meet Simran in person, but always received constant excuses from Bobby. These included moving to New York, to various health scares, with several โmutual friendsโ messaging Kirat to validate Bobbyโs stories. In reality, Simran was behind all these mutual friends as well, with fake profiles. However, Bobby eventually became very controlling with his communication, which left Kirat unable to work due to intense stress.
Kirat eventually found out that Bobby was staying at a nearby hotel in London. Upon going there to pay him a visit, she found out that there was no Bobby Jandu staying there. This piqued her suspicions, and Kirat eventually hired a private investigator, who gave her an address in Brighton. Kirat Assi drove to the address to confront Bobby, but when she arrived, she did meet a man named Bobby Jandu, but he had no clue who she was. Interestingly, the next day, Kirat’s cousin, Simran Bhogal, arrived at her house and admitted to have catfished her for the last eight years.

Simran Bhogal current whereabouts
Ever since her catfishing actions got exposed, Simran Bhogal has proceeded to keep a low profile. Around the release of the Sweet Bobby podcast, Simran resigned from her job at a firm in London. She also went on to delete her various social media profiles.
Simran Bhogal, who was accused of catfishing against her cousin, now maintains a low profile since her ten year deception got exposed with her having moved to her parents home in North London. Bhogal resigned from her job at Barclays and currently resides with her family in North West London. She worked as Barclay’s as the Vice President, COO and Finance Business Partner.
According to reports, Simran reportedly made a statement to Netflix through her lawyers stating:
This matter concerns a family dispute over events that began over a decade ago, when I was a schoolgirl. As far as I’m concerned, this is a private family matter that has been resolved.โ
She further added:
I strongly object to the numerous unfounded and seriously defamatory accusations that have been made about me, as well as details of private matters that have been shared with the media.โ
Reason behind Simran Bhogal catfishing her cousin
As of now, Simranโs true motives for catfishing her cousin still remain unclear. According to reports, she has never really offered a proper explanation for her actions. Moreover, since catfishing isnโt considered a crime, Kirat could not bring any charges against her cousin for scamming her. She did however win a substantial settlement from her civil case against Simran for harassment, misuse of private information as well as data protection breaches.
