The extensively circulated footage demonstrates how the fight escalated from verbal exchanges to Jiang physically subduing the victim.

The event was captured on camera, with Jiang Yan and the unidentified man getting into a furious dispute during which they are both accused of throwing ingredients and sauces at one another.

“I am a lawyer, a Hong Kong lawyer,” the man is heard saying, apparently escalating the argument. Later footage shows Jiang hitting and pinning the man to the ground.

Jiang Yan used social media to explain her reasons for the altercation after it happened, claiming that the man’s derogatory comments about Hunan people were the primary cause of it. She said, “You dare to disparage us Hunan people? You come to Hong Kong, we respect you, but if you wish to belittle us from Changsha, this is what you can expect as a result.”
