Nine trophies were won by Ivan Jovanovic as the APOEL manager, including four championships, one cup, and four super cups. In 2009, he also assisted APOEL in making it to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever.
He duplicated his success two years later, helping APOEL not only make it through the group stages of the 2011โ12 UEFA Champions League, but also advanced to the quarterfinals by winning their group, defeating Lyon in the round of 16 on penalties, and losing to Real Madrid in the quarterfinals. He is regarded as the most prosperous manager in APOEL’s history.
After agreeing to a two-year contract, Jovanovic was named the new head coach of the Emirati team Al Nasr on June 18, 2013. In the 2014 GCC Champions League final, on May 19, 2014, Jovanovic guided his club to a 2-1 victory over Saham, earning him his first championship as manager of Al Nasr.
Jovanovic was fired by Al Nasr on October 29, 2016, for not making the necessary adjustments to address the team’s persistent technical mistakes. Jovanovic was reappointed by Al Nasr on January 19, 2018, to take Cesare Prandelli’s place.
Jovanovic was fired for the second time on December 2, 2018, following a lackluster start to the UAE Pro-League season in 2018โ19. On June 17, 2021, news broke that Jovanovic had been named Panathinaikos’ next head coach, with a one-year deal. He then went onto become the Greece head coach in 2024.
