Shawn J, who had over 500,000 followers on TikTok, had previously posted a health update that caused his admirers to get concerned when he lost thirty pounds in a month. He disclosed in a video that in March 2024, he had a serious health scare. During his week-long hospital stay, he made a commitment to prioritize his health and become the “healthiest version” of himself by November 1.
Fans have theorized that there may have been a connection between his passing and his prior health concerns, albeit this has not been confirmed. Shawn J gained the weight back almost as fast as he dropped it. The TikToker, who gave an explanation of his circumstances, promised to become the healthiest version of himself by November 1 and said he wanted to inspire his followers to follow suit.
Just six days ago, he shared a TikTok video from the hospital and in the video, he revealed his throat suddenly swelled up at 4 AM, making it difficult to breathe and also went onto say he wasn’t sure if he would make it. He had also revealed that he had lost over two stones in weight in the past month.
A GoFundMe page, called celebrating Shawn’s inspiring life and legacy that he lived, has been set up. The cause of his death was confirmed on the page and reads, โShawn did pass due to undergoing health issues. He had a thyroid that was non-cancerous but was too enlarged. This health matter has unexpectedly taken over our loved one too soon.โ
The mother of his kids revealed that Shawn passed away in the morning of 6 October.
